About Beels Insurance

Our History

The Beels Insurance Agency was founded in 1910 by Harry B. Beels, better known as H.B. He had been in the oil business and was looking for a more stable income because of the boom and bust of the oil excitement at the turn of the century. H.B. purchased the agency of J.L McElhaney of Blairs Corners for $350. Mr McElhaney’s only company had been Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Marble and we have continued that relationship for the last 100 years.

The first office for the agency was at H.B.’s farm in Monroe. It was moved to Knox in 1924 to the Alt Building on Main Street, and as business expanded, the office moved down the street to the second floor of the King Building in 1925. In 1973, the building was built at 433 Main Street, where the office is today.

Beels Insurance joined the Nicklas Insurance Group in early 2015.
